| Saint Regis Canoe Area The Saint Regis Canoe Area, the only designated canoe area in the state is located in southern Franklin County about 18 miles north east of Tupper Lake to the old Floodwood Station. It is the headwaters of the West and Middle Branch of the Saint Regis and the Saranac rivers. The area is noted for its qualities of clear spring-fed ponds, short canoe carries, tranquil beauty and wild atmosphere. These 18,000 acres of 58 ponds is closed to motor vehicles, motor boats and aircraft. It is bounded on the south by the railroad tracks and the north by private land. Access is available to the south and east from route 30 and the Floodwood Road. |
