Vintage Seneca Ray
Stoddard photo "circa 1880s" Stoddard. The view is Root's Hotel. For
some reason this little hotel is not mentioned very much in Adirondack lore
although it was an important stop for all those entering the Adirondacks
from Mineville and Port Henry as they treked into the Elk Lake, Tahawus,
Newcomb and Long Lake area. The hotel was located about a mile north of the
Adirondack Northway exit, Blue Ridge Road along current Route 9n near the
Schroon River (9 miles North of Schroon Lake Village, 27 miles east of
Newcomb, 23 miles south of Elizabethtown and 17 miles west of Port Henry) |
