My Adirondacks            Historic Adirondack Postcards, Photos and Prints  from the Jon Kopp Collection              HOME

The above photo was taken by Seneca Ray Stoddard. It was titled "Petries, Third Lake Adirondack Chain" about 35 years  earlier than the 1916 date that William Thistlethwaite writes in his notes:

"Mountain View Cottages - "Dress for Dinner?" I should say not" says C. D. Petrie, proprietor on south side of Fourth Lake near Aquapine. Guest’s enjoy the comforts of the woods, good food and comfortable beds. Consisting of six cottages, two semi-enclosed cottages and three tents the camp runs on the home plan. New this year, there’s hot & cold running water, inside toilets and baths.  Twice a week, there’s dancing in the pavilion with an orchestra that’s well known around the Chain. Each Wednesday motorboat excursions can be had to Eighth Lake, a time honored custom. There is accommodations for 100 guests"
