In the old days one of the first things you saw when getting off at the Tupper Lake train station was the view down Oak Street. At the end of the street you would see the Faust Hotel, located where Rebel's Video is today. The Faust Hotel was a four story frame structure first built by Frank Dowd about 1895. The hotel was quite successful being close to the active junction depot. After 1940 the hotel was acquired in a tax sale by Naja Ellis and converted into apartments. The building was torn down in 1958
