| Previously called the Raquette Pond
House the building was meant to be a boarding house for the workers who
were building John Hurd's Big Mill on Raquette Pond, hence the name
Raquette Pond House. In 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bruce bought the hotel
from and renamed it to the American House which ran successfully for the
next 75 years. By 1935 the hotel had expanded and was able to accommodate
200 guest in the dinning room |
